I started looking at the closing of the fist, and decided to portray this using the outlines of bones from the x-rays. Then i started to  break up the bones into their different components, and arrange them different ways.

I found the initial results interesting, so i uploaded some onto Photoshop and played around with the colours and movements of the bones within the hand. I love the almost robotic look of them when I was finished.
